Antacid and Uncle Heartburn ( GPS SCSh2  SCSh3  SCSh6  SPS6  SC7  ) - In this guided inquiry exercise, students will use their knowledge of acids and bases to devise a procedure to determine which of three antacids is most effective.    ( Lesson Plan )

Bag O' Isopotes ( GPS SCSh4  SCSh5  SPS1  ) - In this activity, students will learn to calculate average atomic mass using the fictional element legumium.    ( Student handout )

Calculating the Half-life of Twizzlers and M&M’s ( GPS SCSh4  SPS1  SPS3  ) - This lesson plan includes two labs designed to teach the concept of half-life. The Twizzler lab is designed to introduce the topic and is best if used before the M&Mium lab.    ( Lesson Plan )

Can You Believe Everything You See? ( GPS SCSh1  SCSh3  SCSh5  SCSh6  SCSH8  ) - In this lesson, students will utilize the steps of the scientific method to formulate a research project that tests a claim made by a company in a TV commercial. Students will learn how to properly conduct a research experiment and gain a better understanding of each step involved in the scientific method.    ( Lesson plan   Marketing )

Chemical and Physical Reactions in your Kitchen - This is a lesson plan that is derived from the original, above, which is a stand-alone lesson plan. The Marketing lesson has been incorporated into the Product Development Competition materials.    ( Lesson Plan, Data Table and Grading Key )

Chemical Reactions of Antacid Relief Products ( GPS SCSh2  SCSh4  SCSh6  SPS2  SPS6  SC2  ) - This lesson plan is a tool to use when teaching chemical reactions. Students will synthesize magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide using common household products. Teacher conclusions and review of lab will demonstrate the use of chemistry in society and how the products synthesized in this lab are used in everyday life.    ( Lesson Plan, Handout and Overheads )
