Pursuing Ph.D in Poultry Science - Major Professor:Dr. Adam Davis

Personal and Professional Background

Hi! I'm Jackie Hoffman and I grew up in Sandy Springs, GA. I am currently a 2nd year PhD student pursuing a doctoral degree in the poultry science with an emphasis on reproductive endocrinology. I am interested in pursuing a career at a zoological endocrinology conservation research center. This summer I will be doing an internship at the National Zoo in D.C. with Janine Brown, an elephant endocrionologist.

I am teaching with Leigh Ann Munro and the rest of the wonderful science department at Madison County High School. GO RAIDERS! This is my second year at Madison and I really love the close-knit community and friendly environment present at MCHS. I work with classes in Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Botany. My favorite part about engaging in science with high school students is learning about each individual, what motivates them, what they aspire to do with their lives, what intrigues them... My students at Madison are awesome and its been great thus far watching their minds expand and their inquisitive nature unfold.

Education is close to my heart as my mother is a middle school TAG science educator in Roswell, GA. My parents still live in Sandy Springs and recently adopted Shana, the sister of my dog. I have one older sister, Miriam, who is a speech pathologist in Greenville, SC. She is getting married this summer and I can't wait!

Lastly, I love animals! My menagerie consists of my dog Hannah (sister to Shana, Sammy my 3-legged cat, Madison my 4-legged cat, and my three cockatiels Babe, Shnookie, and Mickey.

I look forward to the evolution of the SBOF and am excited to see the great impact we can have on science education in Georgia's public high schools.
