Pursuing Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology - Major Professor:Dr. Joe Frank

Personal and Professional Background

I was born and raised in Macon, GA. I came to Athens in 1995 and have lived here since. I earned a BS in Environmental Health at UGA in 1999. For the four years following graduation, I worked as an environmental consultant focusing on characterization and remediation of hazardous waste sites with soil and groundwater contamination. I am now pursuing a PhD in aquatic toxicology under Dr. Marsha Black. My research focuses on pharmaceutical chemicals in the aquatic environment and their effects on aquatic organisms.

My previous teaching experience includes working as an environmental educator for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta as well as various summer camp positions. Upon completion of my PhD, I hope to begin a career in higher education. Through my career, I plan to continue to work with secondary science education with the goal of more seamlessly integrating secondary and higher science education. I am very excited to be participating in the program, and I look forward to learning a great deal from the fellows, teachers, and investigators.
